Disease Management

Plant resistance is currently not available managing soybean rust; however, soybean varieties likely differ in their susceptibility to the disease. Producers should consider planting less-susceptible varieties when this information becomes available. The potential impact of cultural controls such as increased row spacing could help delay the onset of disease, but it is unclear whether these practices will significantly limit disease pressure from soybean rust. The timely application of fungicides is likely to be the most effective control for soybean rust until resistant varieties become available. See the tables at the end of this publication for information about appropriate fungicides.
